It's Christmas Time

Well, another year nearly gone and I have been very remiss in keeping this up, but someone out there has been finding us anyway, twenty-one page views so far today!  So to each and every Trindle family member and researcher I wish you a Very Happy Holiday and a Wonderous New Year.  And my New Year's Resolution will be to do a better job of keeping this blog up.  Be sure to send me stories, pictures and anything else you are willing to share with all the other Trindles (of all spellings) out there!

William Trindle of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania

William is the patriarch of the main known family of  Pennsylvania, found in Cumberland County by 1740.  We know he was not alone.  When son John served on his first jury he is listed as John, Jr.  To date only sketchy details of the elder John have been found.  It seems possible that the Westmoreland families found on the puzzle page might link to John.  Updates to this tree will be found on the page Wm of PA.

Monthly Puzzle - More Irish Connections.

St. Patrick's Day seems a good time to look at a few more Irish connections.
    Celtic Clip Art

Matthew Trindle, born about 1815 in Ireland, a tailor is found in Boston, Ward 2,  in 1850.  His wife Cecelia was also born in Ireland.

John Trindle, also born about 1815 in Ireland and also a tailor is living over a thousand miles away in the household of John Fye.

Eliza (Attridge) Trindle was born about 1814.  She is found in Castleton, Richmond, New York in 1870.  With her are five children all born in Ireland Mary 38, Thomas 26, Fanny 24, William 21 and Ellen 20.  They are all listed in the household of Michael Donahen.

In 1880 Eliza's husband Richard is living with her and Mary, William and Ellen are also in the household. Tenth Census of the United States, 1880. (NARA microfilm publication T9, 1,454 rolls). To date only Ellen has been found in later records.  It appears she married Charles Ellet about 1880 and had no children.

    Cousins

Used with permission of Michael Francis Heywood Heywood Family Tree

I was very excited to find this picture of Eliza Jane (Smith) Trindle and her family (Trindles, Crawfords, and more) taken in July of 1923. It appears it was an 82nd birthday party.  Eliza died later that year in the home of her son Walter.  I don't recognize many of the faces but a few stood out right away.  First on the left in the back row is Walter Trindle, 5th is his son Ivan, and 9th is his son Clarence.

2nd from the right in the row of seated women is Bertha Trindle Crawford and next to her (I believe) is Cora Helen who later in life married Clarence Trindle, her second marriage and his third.

Possibly to the right of Eliza is Mabel (Trindle) Osborn and her daughter Beulah.  The man second from the right looks like a picture I have of Donald Trindle, but he would only be 14 in 1922 so perhaps that is his brother Harold who would be 20 and the boy to his right is Donald?

Michael has some great pictures of the Crawfords on his family tree, check them out.

    I welcome clues.

    Moving Forward

I fully intended to keep this blog up weekly, but as you can see it has been a few weeks.  Moving forward it is my hope to continue to post a puzzle here and there but also to start to add more pedigrees and documentation.  Today I have added a page for the descendants of William Trindle.  This is a work in progress, only spanning four generations so far.  Where a daughter marries and there is genealogical material available elsewhere I have added links rather than include that family.  This hopefully will allow the inclusion of further generations.  I will continue to add story pages and document links for the descendants of William.  I will also start adding pages for some of the families that have not been connected to William.  Perhaps one day soon we will find links, in the meantime, many are well researched.

If you are researching a family and would like to either include a link to your own material or include information here let me know.

    A New Year's Letter 2014

In 1996 after a few years of corresponding with Trindle families throughout the country and putting together a book on the Trindle family, I took up Helen Trindle's idea of an annual newsletter.  The newsletter went out to anyone that wanted it, plus a few new addresses that I would dig up each year. One unsolicited mailing found my husband's second cousin Bruce and the Civil War letters of Aaron Trindle.  Unfortunately, time and energy waned and grandchildren intervened.  The last one to go out was in 2006.

This blog is my attempt to do two things.  First continue the connection to other Trindle researchers. Second, get my husband's Trindle genealogy out where others can find it.  All my great finds can be read by millions of researchers.  Well, okay, I'm happy if four people read it a week.  I've been ecstatic that those weekly numbers are now always double digit!

My goal is to share research so that no one has to do it over.  So I thought I'd  give you a few statistics.
    • My Trindle file now includes:
      • 11,625 Individuals in
      • 3870 families
      • 18121 events in
      • 2571 places (close to twenty countries and every state of the union)
    • There are 9106 citations, which means there is still a lot of work to do to corroborate other events and family connections.
    • I have 8629 digital images/ documents in 813 folders.
    • This is only the Trindle families (of all spellings) and their descendants.  All my husbands collateral families are in separate files. [Chapman, Naylor, Grant, Oakes.....etc]
I will happily share information with interested researchers.
    Email me at Catht@aol.com

    Have a wonderful new year!
