Crockett

There are differing opinions as to the origin of the name Crockett (Crocket, Crockitt, Crockat, etc).  The earliest known record is found in Normandy in 1180 where you can find Rudulphus and Rainald Crockitt.  Another reference is a Nicholas Croquet of Moisy found in "Parme les Notables Commercants de Paris la Moitie du XVI."

While some seem to think the name is of Scottish origin, it is not to be found there until many years after the Norman Conquest.

The Crockett families of Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Tennessee, most likely did detour through Scotland or Northern Ireland.  They settled first in Pennsylvania with other Scots Irish in the early eighteenth century.
